FAQ

  • How much does therapy cost?

My session fee for individual and couples therapy sessions are billed at the rate of $220 for a 50-minute session and 10 minutes of administrative-related tasks to account for the remainder of the hour. All other session lengths (e.g., 65 minutes, 80 minutes) will be prorated accordingly with the listed session rate.

The Psychological Association of Alberta’s recommended fee as of January 2025 is $235 for a 50-minute session.

  • Do you offer direct billing to my insurance plan?

I provide you with an electronic receipt in PDF format following the session, which you can then submit to your insurance company. Session fees can be paid via credit card or e-transfer (please ask me about this if you’d like this option).

  • Do you offer a reduced fee for therapy?

As I am just launching my practice, I am not able to offer a reduced fee for counselling services at this time. However, as I grow, I will offer several spots for clients who need a reduced fee option to come to therapy. Please check back again in the future.

For some low-cost options for therapy, you can check out the Affordable Therapy Network for therapists in Calgary and across Canada.

  • Cancellation policy

If you need to cancel, please give as much notice as you can. This allows time for me to contact my waitlist to see if others may want that spot. A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required to cancel a session.

Late cancellations: Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice will be subject to a fee that is 50% of the full cost of an appointment.

No-show cancellations: When an appointment is cancelled less than 1 hour before the session start time, or with no notice at all, the appointment will be billed at 100% of the session fee.

  • Is virtual therapy as effective as in-person?

The research on teletherapy effectiveness has rocketed since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Overall, the evidence points to evidence that teletherapy is as effective as in-person care for clients.  In my experience as well, I have not found a difference in the relationships I am able to develop with clients online vs. in-person and have observed clients achieve similar results. I would be happy to discuss pros and cons of each option with you in a consult.

Virtual therapy allows for more flexibility to access the therapist you want to see, with distance no longer being a barrier. As well, it can reduce obstacles to going to therapy, such as scheduling difficulties and childcare needs.

  • How long will therapy take?

This is a tough question to answer, as everyone has different concerns and needs. The average range of sessions people attend is around 8-14. Some may require less than this to work through a specific and present-day problem, while others may come to therapy for several years to understand lifelong patterns and themes, and to create significant shifts in themselves. My hope is that within six sessions you can identify patterns and gain awareness of some emotions, thoughts, and sensations, as well as learn some initial skills to support yourself through the process of therapy.
