Anxiety Therapy

You’re up late at night and your thoughts are racing. You often notice a pit in your stomach, a weight on your chest, and feeling tense. You feel dread, always worrying about the worst case scenario. There are important things you’d like to be doing with your life, such as starting to date, leaving an unhealthy relationship, applying for a different job, asking for a raise… but the fear of failing crops up and stops you from moving forward. Your internal voice is often harsh and critical, leaving you with the feeling that you’ll never measure up.

I have been here before – most of us have! Fortunately, with anxiety therapy, there are skills you can learn so that anxiety does not get in the way of creating the life you want.

In our work, I will help you to evaluate which thoughts to pay attention to and which ones to let go of, to recognize what is in your control, and to respond to thoughts effectively so you don’t get sucked into spirals of rumination. I’ll support you in gaining more awareness of and comfort with your emotions and knowing the difference between thoughts and feelings.

In therapy, you’ll learn to build a sense of self-worth based on your core values and to act on goals, even when feeling anxious/doubtful. I believe you can set goals and strive for big things but learn to be kind to yourself along the way when mistakes inevitably happen. I want to support you in having the life YOU want and that works well for you, not the one that you think you should have.

Therapy for anxiety and other emotional concerns can involve talk therapy and experiential approaches. We might use tool and skills from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy, or we can use experiential therapies, such as Accelerated Resolution Therapy and the Comprehensive Resource Model. Many different approaches are helpful to address anxiety concerns. The overall aim is to respond to your thoughts and emotions effectively, and to move more experiences from your “not okay” list to the “okay” category.
